Decent Game

There are lots of things you can improve here. One would be to fix up the opponents. Another would be to fix up the tracks some. I got slowed down a lot because it said I was off road when I really was just closer to the side. You could add a tournament or something to spice it up a bit and give the player something more to play for. If you really wanted, you could make upgrades and all so you can fix up your own sleigh.

LOL Great review! Thank you! I'll try to make things better next time. Really usefull review!

Great Story

Of course everyone likes to save cute fuzzy things. But the learning curve was kinda, well, flat. It didn't increase in difficulty as far as I could tell. Adding bosses to the end of every level could help this. There also weren't any new forms of gameplay, other than the helicopter, introduced over the time of play. Instead you just blurted it all out at the beginning. Try to save some stuff for later on.

Overall, the various attacks and ways of taking damage made it fun just to beat guys up for a while and the story is what kept me playing.

Too hard for me

Having six keys right off the start was kind of confusing. Maybe you should bump up the number of keys needed as you progress.
Other than the difficulties, there needs to be a bigger variety of songs for each difficulty.

Coolio-Niato responds:

Then again many are saying the difficulty is too easy. According to this average, my game incorporates mediocore difficulty songs which of course, take getting used to at first. Ill try to make some more variety in songs for the sequel.

A very nice engine.

The engine is simply amazing, but yet it is not a balanced game.
1) The 'bad' power-ups out numbered the 'good' ones. That made it feel more of a chance/luck game.

2) It appears as if it shot down random colors, though I can't be sure of that. You should make every experience close to the same for every level. This will add a learning-curve which it doesn't seem to have.

3) More on the learning-curve: Create difficulty levels (build them in to the engine) and create high-score tables for all of the levels and difficulties

It is amazing what you/AS3 can do. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

After the third series of white flashes, I thought I was going to start foaming from the mouth and roll all over the floor. ;)

Glaiel-Gamer responds:

ya well for part 1, there's an equal number of bad an good powerups, as well as a few neutral ones.

Good:
all green
mega mode

bad:
all red
strobe

neutral:
fast
slow
all big

for part 2, ya the colors are random. I didn't think that would be much of a problem though

3. Good idea. I'll consider it if I make a sequal (90% not happening)

lol I did give a seizure warning

no balance

Oce you click the button to start, the guys come down right away. So if you don't know whats gonna happen when you click the button, your dead.
Also, if you do manage to keep them off you for the first attack, you can kill every one of them just by holding down the mouse button. Thats because your fire rate is to high and you bullets don't dissaper when they hit somthing.
You should slow down the enemys and the fire rate to make it more of a skill game. Not a hold the button as long as you can game.

Next time before submiting, make sure to playtest a bit longer.

Let me define a game

1. A game has rules
2. A game has a learning curve
3. A game has balance

So this is not a game.
And this should just go in an AS thread some where if you want people to see it.

Awsome

For the person below me, you suck.
You have no apritiation for game designers, nor for games.
You couldn't think of anything as creative as this nor make anything like this nor a game like orbs.

There for I give this straight tens

Good job

Pretty Good

Assuming that the code worked, it showed how to make a basic pre-loader and a masked pre-loader.

Nice tut, And the graphics and layout were nice.

AWSOME

make more levels
think of a new gameplay mode
